About Us
Formed in the fall of 2023, friends with tom is Chicagoland’s high-energy cover band playing the biggest hits of the 2000s rock and alternative scenes. Rising from the ashes of several previous local groups, the Ryan, Matt, Greg, & Phil show is a lineup of seasoned veteran musicians dedicated to bringing you the iconic soundtrack to your Top 8’s Myspace profiles.
Leading friends with tom is vocalist and guitarist Ryan Rudolf, whose powerful pipes and emotive stage presence channel the vocal stylings of 2000s rock legends. Alongside him on guitar and backing vocals is Matt Powell, whose fiery fretwork and harmonies help replicate the guitar-driven anthems of the era. Holding down the low end is Phil Balgeman on bass and backing vocals, providing a sturdy foundation for the band's dynamic sound. Powering the rhythm section is drummer Greg Notbusch, whose thunderous beats and energetic performance help drive the band's electrifying live shows.
Together, this quartet of 2000s aficionados has made it their mission to bring the era's most beloved hits back to life for Chicago audiences. From the bluesy hard rock of Kings of Leon to the dramatic emo stylings of My Chemical Romance, and the over-the-top glam of The Darkness, friends with tom's sets are a veritable time capsule of your old click-wheel iPod (or for you weirdos, your Zune, we don’t judge). Concertgoers can expect to hear faithful renditions of their favorite aughts jams that will have them singing, dancing, and reminiscing about the lyrics they carefully used to construct the perfect AOL Instant Messenger away message.
